The Global Undergraduate Semester Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) is a fully funded educational and cultural exchange initiative by the U.S. Department of State. It offers outstanding undergraduate students from around the world the chance to spend a semester at a U.S. university. Participants engage in academic coursework tailored to their interests, partake in community service, and participate in cultural and leadership development activities. The program emphasizes cross-cultural understanding, civic engagement, and leadership skills. It’s open to students with strong academic records and leadership potential, and the selection process is highly competitive.

Global UGRAD-Pakistan program

The Global Undergraduate Semester Exchange Program – Pakistan (Global UGRAD-Pakistan) started in 2010, supported by the U.S. government. It’s managed by organizations in both Pakistan and the U.S. This program has become popular with Pakistani university students because it allows them to spend one semester studying at a university in the United States without earning a degree there. It is open to Pakistani students who are in their 14th year of education, whether they are in a four-year or two-year bachelor’s program.

  • Age limit for Application submission: 18-24
  • Last date to submit the application: September 25, 2024

Global UGRAD-Pakistan program Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must be a Pakistani citizen.
  • You should be between 18-24 years old by the application deadline.
  • You need to be currently studying at a college or university in Pakistan and willing to return to your school after the program ends.
  • You should be in your 14th year of education (usually the second year of a bachelor’s program).
  • You must provide both your current and previous academic transcripts with your application.

Ineligibility:

  • You cannot apply if you have dual U.S./Pakistani citizenship or are a U.S. permanent resident.
  • You cannot apply if you or your immediate family members work for the Fulbright organization, the U.S. Department of State, or USAID.
  • You are not eligible if you’ve been to the U.S. before on a J-visa or through a U.S. government-funded grant.

How to Apply for Global UGRAD-Pakistan program

  1. The Global UGRAD-Pakistan program is announced every year around September/October. Check for availability.
  2. Submit the application form online.
  3. Before submitting, make sure to:
    • Upload scanned copies of all your university-attested transcripts, including the most recent one.
    • Upload an explanation of your university’s grading scale if your transcript doesn’t show your CGPA or percentage.
  4. Important Note: Only selected students will need to provide:
    • Reference Letters.
    • A Non Objection Certificate (NOC) from their current academic institution.
